News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office. On May 10, 2015 at 12:45 AM, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City, on a report of a male subject being treated for a gunshot wound. Deputies arrived at the hospital and learned a male subject had been shot on May 9th at approximately 11:45 PM, just outside a residence in the 200 block of N. Yodel Lane, Otis, Oregon. The victim was transported by Life Flight air ambulance to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland where he received further treatment for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Due to the severity of the incident, the Lincoln County Major Crime Team was activated and began an investigation. The Lincoln County Major Crime Team is comprised of members from the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office and all city, county, and state law enforcement agencies in Lincoln County. Multiple witnesses to the shooting were interviewed and a scene investigation was conducted. Based upon information learned, detectives identified the suspect of the shooting as Jon Michael Walsh, 41 years old from Lincoln City, OR, and that a handgun was used in the incident. On May 10, 2015 at 3:22 PM, uniformed patrol officers responded to Walsh’s residence in the 1800 block of NE 19th Street in Lincoln City and took him into custody without incident. Walsh was interviewed by detectives and subsequently transported to the Lincoln County Jail. Detectives with the Major Crime Team received and then executed a search warrant on Walsh’s residence. Walsh was lodged at the jail and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Weapons by a Felon. Walsh’s bail was set at $65,000.00. Preliminary investigation shows the shooting may have an element of self defense, however, the Major Crime Team’s investigation is continuing and remains active. The victim is currently hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
