Bear hunting season started Saturday, August 1st. Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) urges hunters and other forest users to know the access and fire restrictions for the area they plan to use before heading to the woods. Due to severe weather and extreme drought conditions, most landowners have closed access to their lands. This includes foot traffic. For access information, contact the owner of the land you wish to use. Weather conditions and recent fire activity are also prompting an increase in public restrictions. Effective Saturday, August 1st, the Regulated Use Closure currently in effect will be modified with the following: • all non-industrial welding, cutting and grinding of metal is prohibited; • mowing of dry, cured grass with power driven equipment is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., except for the commercial culture and harvest of agricultural crops; As a reminder, • non-industrial chainsaw use is prohibited; • Campfires will be allowed at hosted campsites on State Parks, BLM, County Parks and KOA Campgrounds. Any of these parks can deny any campfire use and all campgrounds must have a camp host. All other campfires are not allowed.
