Charleston Harbor Blessing of the Fleet, June 20

Letter to the Editor:  The Charleston Fisherman’s Memorial Committee thanks everyone who made this year’s Blessing of the Fleet/Memorial Day service on May 29th such a great success. Knute Nemeth worked hard to acquire a buoy bell from the United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association of North Bend along with USCG Petty Officer Thomas Heinz, Aids to Navigation Team. With the assertiveness of Mickey Pulse, Charleston Marina port staff, the bell was mounted and rung when Charleston fishermen names were called to honor them at the service. Special thanks to: United States Coast Guard Honor Guard, Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, Oregon Coast Pipes and Drums, Charleston Community Baptist Church, David Ford, Crabby Cakes Bakery, JGS Precision Tools, Fisherman’s Grotto, Englund Marine and Tarheel Aluminum. A special thanks to all those who attended to honor our Charleston fishermen and our Veterans. Margery Whitmer, Charleston Fisherman’s Memorial Committee.
