Cheese Wreck, Oct. 25

On October 24, 2016 at about 3:00am, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 5 at milepost 8, which is approximately 6 miles south of Ashland in Jackson County. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a trailer loaded with cheese was northbound on Interstate 5 and failed to maintain its lane of travel driving off the roadway and taking out over 300 feet of guard rail. The semi-tractor and trailer were totaled and the load of cheese was spread about the 400 feet of crash scene. Both lanes of travel were closed for a short period of time and has been open to one lane of travel since 4:00am as efforts to recover the trailer’s contents. Interstate 5 was scheduled to open without restrictions at about 3:00pm. The driver of the vehicle, Jagjiwan SINGH, age 26, of Santa Clara, CA received minor injuries from the crash, refused medical care and is believed to have been wearing his seatbelt. SINGH was cited for Failing to Maintain a Single Lane of Travel. The contributing factors into the crash are still under investigation.
