Portions of the Chetco and Molalla rivers received Scenic Waterway Designations following the signing of an Executive Order by Governor Kate Brown Wednesday, Jan. 27. They are the first designations since 1988. The Chetco River flows into Brookings Harbor in Curry County. As a Scenic Waterway, the designation are intended to protect surrounding recreation, fish and wildlife. Landowners will be required to obtain permits for logging, construction or mining within a quarter-mile of the river’s banks.
