The City of Coos Bay observes Arbor Day on the last Friday of April each year. April 29, 2022 is the last Friday of April for this year, as such please join the City of Coos Bay, and the City of Coos Bay Tree Board members for a special tree planting at John Topits Park. This year the city of Coos Bay will be planting a total of seven trees at a predetermined location within the park. The trees have been donated to the city by Jim Tofflelmire to encourage stewardship of the natural health of our community. He will be onsite to help plant the donated trees. City staff encourages anyone that wants to come watch this special event to arrive at the middle lake parking lot of John Topits Park located at the north end of Hull Street at 10:00 am. Arbor Day was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska. Now it is observed throughout the nation and the world. Trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees are a renewable resource giving us paper and wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and countless other wood products. Trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community. Coos Bay has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation and desires to continue its tree-planting endeavors.
