The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign. Deputies will be working to increase proper safety belt and child car seat use during a statewide traffic enforcement “blitz” from February 5 through February 18. The main emphasis during this blitz will be safety belts, child restraints, texting and speed. Funding for this enforcement is paid for by the Oregon Department of Transportation – Traffic Safety Administration. In 2015, the use of seat belts in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 13,941 lives of occupants ages 5 and older. The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement officers saving lives. The base fine for seat belt or child seat violations in Oregon is $115.00.
