Clothing Pantry Fire, Nov. 30

CBFD release – COOS BAY, November 28, 2020 – Just after 8:00 pm, the North Coos 911 Dispatch center began receiving multiple reports of a fire at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Newmark in Coos Bay. Coos Bay Fire Department responded and found a fire inside the clothing pantry in an adjacent building belonging to the church. Fire fighters did a preliminary knockdown of the fire from outside before entering and completing the extinguishment. The fire was knocked down in about twenty minutes, but firefighters remained on scene for another hour and a half overhauling the building and conducting an investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building is used as a food and clothing pantry, the food Storage area suffered minor smoke damage, but the clothing pantry was severely damaged as was all the stored clothes and supplies. Damage estimates to the building is $100,000 and contents conservatively at $50,000 in damages. The building is insured. Coos Bay Fire requested and received aid from North Bend Fire Department. Also assisting, was Charleston Fire, Bay Cities Ambulance, and Coos Bay Police Department.
