Coast Guard medevacs teenager from Coquille Valley to Portland, Jan. 26

A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a teenager with a reported head injury from Coquille Valley to Portland, Saturday. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend safely delivered a 15-year-old male and a registered nurse from Coquille Valley Hospital to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. Watchstanders at Sector North Bend received a request to medevac the teen and the registered nurse around 5 p.m. from Coos County Sheriff’s Office dispatch. The teen reportedly sustained a head injury while operating an all-terrain vehicle in Powers. He was transported from the scene by ambulance to Coquille Valley Hospital. The helicopter crew picked up the teen and the registered nurse from Coquille Valley Hospital, and safely arrived at OHSU around 9 p.m. and transferred the teen over to medical personnel. “Coast Guard and local law enforcement personnel routinely work together,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Frey, a search and rescue coordinator at Sector North Bend. “This case is a prime example of how we work together during emergency situations to ensure the safety of the people in our community.” An entry on the Coos Co.
