Three water pumps were used to save a commercial fishing vessel from sinking off the North Oregon Coast Tuesday, Aug. 8. The U.S. Coast Guard received the Mayday call about 3:36 a.m. from the Pura Vida 66-miles west of Tillamook Head. Along with the Coast Guard response, several other commercial vessels and two U.S. Navy warships responded to the Mayday call. The Coast Guard sent an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and 47-foot motor lifeboat. The Pura Vida was towed back to port with its three-member crew.
