Coast Guard unit to conduct exercise on Hood Canal, Wash., Aug. 21

SEATTLE — Coast Guard Maritime Force Protection Unit Bangor is scheduled to conduct an exercise Wednesday, Aug. 21, on Dabob Bay in the vicinity of the Hood Canal Bridge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Increased levels of activity will be noticed during the exercise. Training involving the use of blank ammunition will be visible and audible to the local public. No live fire will be used during the exercise. U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy security boats will be on site. The Coast Guard has established a 500-yard safety zone extending from the exercise area. Mariners are advised to use caution by reducing speed, establishing a safe distance from the area and maintaining a no-wake zone when transiting in the vicinity of the exercise. A broadcast notice to mariners will be transmitted before, during and at the completion of the exercise. Training is subject to change due to operational requirements. The Coast Guard routinely conducts security exercises to ensure readiness and proficiency. The Coast Guard is committed to protecting mariners, the maritime environment and marine mammals.
