Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Lincoln County Crash Team, is continuing the investigation into Friday evening’s two vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 20 at the entrance to Ellmaker State Park near Burnt Woods. The crash resulted in the death of a 64-year old Springfield man.  According to Sergeant Cari Boyd, on March 14, 2014 at approximately 6:41 p.m., a 1999 Dodge pickup driven by RICHARD L. BARNEY, age 63, from Albany, was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 32 approaching the intersection for Ellmaker State Park. A 1994 Mitsubishi pickup driven by JERRY FRANCIS McLAUGHLIN, age 64, from Springfield, pulled up to the stop sign and then into the westbound lane where it was struck in the driver’s side by the Dodge pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.  CPR efforts at the scene on McLAUGHLIN was attempted but he was pronounced deceased.  BARNEY and his 63-year old wife/passenger were not injured.  All persons involved in the crash were using safety restraints.
