Burns Night is celebrated annually by Scots around the world in memory of Robert Burns (1759-1796), Scotland’s national poet and songwriter, perhaps best known world-wide for the song Auld Lang Syne. The Celebration is rich with traditional ceremony including The piping in of the Haggis, accompanied by pipe band and kilted swordsmen honor guard; Burns’ Ode to the Haggis; Burns’ Selkirk Grace; Address to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns; Toast to the Lasses & Reply to the Laddies; Singing of Auld Lang Syne at Evening’s End (audience participation); Scottish Attire suggested but not required. Proceeds of the event also support the Coastal Celtic Society’s Scholarship Fund, a 501C3 charity promoting Celtic Culture through music, dance, education and the arts.
