The Oswald West State Park suspension bridge spanning Necarney Creek will close for rehabilitation work Aug. 29-Sept. 2. The work will include replacing the trusses, deck surface and handrails. Last rehabilitated in 1998, the project is a top priority and necessary for visitor safety, said Park Manager Ben Cox. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department employees and a Department of Corrections inmate crew will complete the $7,500 project. Cox recommends visitors and Oregon Coast Trail hikers use the beach as a detour via the South Beach Access Trail and the Shorts Sand Beach Trail.
