JULY JUBILEE begins with North Bend Police hosting Coffee with a Cop on July 17th at The Grounds Café (inside Books by the Bay). Program offers opportunity to meet local officers, discuss community issues. On July 17th, officers from the North Bend Police Department and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee. All community members are invited to attend. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on July 17th at the The Grounds Café, inside Books by the Bay, 1875 Sherman Avenue, North Bend. Please contact Chief Robert Kappelman at (541)756-3161 if you need more information. No reservations needed…all citizens and visitors are invited to attend! Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in our neighborhoods. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies or emotionally charged situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
Opportunities for positive interactions like this are the foundation of long-lasting community partnerships. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
