City of North Bend release – North Bend Mayor Jessica Engelke and Coos Bay Mayor Joe Benetti had an opportunity to meet over coffee Saturday morning with Oregon Governor Kate Brown. Both Mayors advocated for needs in their respective communities and for the Southern Coast, including affordable housing, mental health services, and economic development. Mayor Engelke specifically requested support for a low-income housing tax credit application before the state, and expansion of Coos Bay and the port to bring in a shipping terminal and good, high-paying jobs. Mayor Benetti took the opportunity to describe the sinking library in Coos Bay and requested state assistance before the structure is no longer useable.
