Once again the commercial Dungeness Crab Season along the Oregon Coast will have a delayed opening. Recent testing by the state has shown the crabs have not yet developed enough meat to be harvested. Last year’s season was delayed nearly a month because of low meat content. The season normally begins Dec. 1st. State officials have targeted Dec. 16th as the opening this year. Commercial Dungeness Crabbing is the No. 1 marine product for Oregon. Last year, $66.7 million was earned on 18.7 million pounds of crab caught. A second round of testing is planned for later this month.
