One South Oregon Coast processor says the crab being landed now by the commercial fleet is beautiful and full of meat. Russell Burkman, owner of Pacific Ocean Harvesters in Curry Co., adds that they are really good quality. The commercial season got off to a slow start again this year. The season traditionally begins Dec. 1st and runs through mid-August of the next year. However, the Lion’s share of the catch normally occurs during the first two-months. The season was delayed until Dec. 31st to allow the crab to mature. The wait was apparently worth it.
