On May 29, 2018 at about 1:10 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a rollover Commercial Motor Vehicle crash on US 395 near milepost 151 in Lake County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a blue 2011 Kenworth tractor and flatbed trailer, operated by Pete George Cappello, age 63, from Cottonwood, California, was traveling northbound on US 395 near milepost 151 when, for an unknown reason, the combination drifted into the ditch on the east shoulder and subsequently rolled in the highway. Cappello suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. US 395 was closed for over four hours following the crash.
