Concerns in Coos Co. about Potential Protests, June 3

CCSO release – During the past 36 hours the Coos County Sheriff’s office has been inundated with calls from local citizens, businesses and outside organizations regarding information related both a potential peaceful protests and the possibility of it being used as a cover for possibly planned unlawful activities. The information obtained specifically indicated that there are certain organizations that may attempt to use the peaceful protest as a cover to conduct unlawful and dangerous activities, that would threaten the community and public property. The Sheriff’s Office is aware of the potential threats, and has shared the information it has obtained with all local Law Enforcement agencies. They, in turn have been collecting and sharing any information they’ve found. For the public safety of the citizens of Coos County, a significant effort has been put into planning and coordinating an appropriate response to any peaceful and / or unlawful activities. These plans have been developed with the input from local and State law enforcement. The plans are being shared with local and state agencies, and preparations are underway to protect our local communities. Unlawful activity, including threat of injury or loss of property will not be tolerated. We wish to thank our citizens and business leaders for their cooperation in dealing with this potential problem.
