Considering New Creek Name in Benton Co., June 1

The Oregon Geographic Names Board will consider several proposals for new names to geographic sites in Benton County at its June 27 meeting in Newport, which will take place at 1:30pm in the conference room of the Central Lincoln Public Utility District (2129 N Coast Highway). Lamprey Creek: Name proposed for an unnamed three-mile long tributary of Oak Creek in Benton County on the western edge of Corvallis near the Oregon State University campus, latitude 44° 34′ 18″ N, longitude 123° 18′ 40″ W. Oak Creek is a tributary of Marys River. Name proposed to reflect importance of Pacific Lamprey to cultures of indigenous people and research on the fish by Oregon State University. Proponent is Xanthippe Augerot of Marys River Watershed Council.
