A project to replace sidewalks and bridge rails on the US 101: Cape Creek Bridge, near Heceta Head in Lane County, is underway. Motorists traveling US 101 near milepost 178 will see an increase in construction activity by the contractor. Beginning Monday, January 6, 2014 and continuing until Friday, January 10, the project will result in a flagged single lane of travel 24-hours-per-day. During this time, the contractor will remove rail and sidewalk from one side of the bridge. Beginning Monday, January 13, the construction zone will be open to two 12-foot wide lanes of travel. A second week-long period of 24 hour flagged travel will occur later in the project. During the 24 hour flagging, flaggers will control northbound and southbound vehicular and bicycle traffic through the work zone. Twenty-four-hour flagging will also be provided for Cape Creek Road. Impacts to the traveling public will be minimized to the extent practical. Access to the Heceta Head State Park will be maintained at all times during construction. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic under the bridge will be protected by a work platform and containment system suspended from the bridge.
