Coos Art Museum has received a $4,190 grant from the Autzen Foundation of Portland to conduct its Art Cart in the Parks Summer Art Education program. The grant funds will be used to implement a mobile arts activity/education program to enhance the local community’s Free Summer Lunch Program for children. Art Cart in the Parks will travel to three area parks weekly for nine weeks starting this summer providing free art activities to kids. The program will keep kids active in learning and doing while school is out of session and boost the current free lunch program. The Museum will be providing hands on art lessons that will be appropriate for all ages. For example, leaf and bark rubbings will provide a closer look at nature as well as a tactile experience and a lovely image they can take home. Dates and locations for the programs will be announced shortly. Since 1951, the Autzen Foundation has been supporting charitable work that makes Oregon a better place. Grants are awarded to social service, arts and culture, educational, and youth-centered organizations.
