News release CBFD.  The Coos Bay firefighters will be picking up Christmas trees within the City limits of Coos Bay on Saturday, January 7, 2017. The Fire Department requests that you place your tree near the curb before 8:00 am on that Saturday.  There is no need to call and request removal of your tree as members of the Fire Department will pick up all trees that are placed near the curb.  Trees can also be dropped off anytime at Fire Station No. 1 on Elrod Avenue in the west end of the parking lot. In addition to removing the potential fire hazards of dry Christmas trees in our homes, some of these trees are used by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to enhance fish habitat in our local streams.  Others are ground and recycled as gardening mulch. The Fire Department is providing this service at no cost, but would requests a canned food donation that will be given to a local food pantry for families in need.
