On October 11th, at 6:09 P.M., the Coos Bay Fire Department was responding to a reported carbon monoxide detector activation in the Coos Bay District. While responding to this incident the crew drove up on a different house that had heavy brown smoke coming out of it. First arriving units arrived at 6:16 P.M. and found a single story residential house located at 1446 N 14th St with one female occupant laying in the backyard who had jumped out of a bedroom window. Fire suppression crews requested an ambulance respond to the scene for the female patient. She was transported by Bay Cities Ambulance to Bay Area Hospital for smoke inhalation and cuts to her hands and arms. Crews forced entry through the front door and extinguished the fire which had started in the kitchen of the home. The fire was under control within 15 minutes and firefighters remained on scene for 2 hours removing smoke from the home, mopping up, and conducting a fire investigation. The fire investigation revealed that flammable liquids were poured in the garage and kitchen of the home and the fire was intentionally set. The Coos Bay Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Coos Bay Police Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, Pacific Power, and Coos Bay/North Bend Water Board.
