Following a unanimous vote by the Coos Bay City Council Tuesday night, the city will move forward with a replacement project for wastewater treatment plant No. 2 at the western end of Fulton Ave. in the Empire District. The City Council had been exploring the idea of possibly privatizing the treatment plant. That decision led to controversy in the community, division among the Council, and the threat of daily fines from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). City Manager Rodger Craddock believes they can run a tight schedule to complete the required necessary work on Treatment Plant No. 2, and possibly avoid the penalties.
