The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation awarded 34 grants worth over $52,000 to programs in Coos Bay Public Schools. Grants were presented August 26th at the district-wide welcome meeting at Marshfield High School. CBSCF Board Member and former principal Arlene Roblan stated in her remarks to the Coos Bay educators, “I can attest to the professionalism, vision and sense of mission our educators carry with them each and every day. It is a great privilege to be able to present these financial awards.” She went on to explain, “Our funding comes from generous community donors, endowments, fundraising and grants.”
Grants will fund much-needed items for Coos Bay students of all ages, including STEM events, music instruments, athletic equipment, science lab supplies, Chromebooks, and OBOB books. Special awards were presented from the Helfrich Family, the Kay Lorence Memorial Fund, and the Stan Sweet Memorial Fund. The Bay Area Hospital Community Foundation also awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000 to be used to pay for all Coos Bay K-5 elementary students’ swimming classes for the 2019-20 school year.
The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation was formed during 2007 to promote programs for the arts, academics, activities and athletics for the benefit of the students of the Coos Bay School District by raising funds through community partnerships. The Foundation is a community-based, not-for-profit organization separate from the Coos Bay School District. People interested in donating to the Foundation can contact their local school, the Coos Bay School District Office, or the Foundation’s website, www.coosbayschoolsfoundation.org.
