An interesting statistic in the Oregon Employment Department’s “South Coast Labor Trends” newsletter for November 2014. Information derived from a three-year Census American Community Survey breaks down the in-migration and out-migration from Coos Co. between 2011 and 2013. The report looks inside the migration from an educational achievement standpoint. “Most recent data show that the Coos County “imported” 56 residents with graduate or professional degrees and “exported” 182 residents in the highest educational attainment group. In this case, one could say there is some brain drain from Coos County for those with the highest education levels. On the other hand, there were slightly more people in-migrating than out-migrating with bachelor degrees, 284 moving out and 369 migrating to Coos Co.”
