The Coos County Master Food Preservers want to remind you that pressure canner gauges should be checked every year. They are a delicate instrument, and even a bump against a countertop can cause them to be inaccurate. Gauges can be tested at some local hardware stores, or at the Extension office in Myrtle Point. Call ahead to arrange for this free service – 541-572-5263. And don’t forget, we also offer a wide variety of food safety and preservation resources. Whether you’re canning tuna, salsa or applesauce, or butchering your game meat, we have handouts we can provide, most are free of charge. Two more workshops are on the schedule for this fall: Harvest Breads is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. And the ever-popular Handmade Holidays will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for either workshop is $10. To reserve your spot call 541-572-5263.
