ATV Accident
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office,  On 05/23/14 at 1434 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy, Hauser Fire/Rescue and Bay Cities Ambulance responded to the dunes area south of Spinreel Campground, Lakeside to a report of an injury ATV accident.  Upon arrival at the scene, First Responders found 15 year old North Bend resident, Tiffany Hargis non-responsive, with possible back injuries.  During the investigation it was learned that Ms. Hargis was traveling on her ATV, wearing a helmet when she drove into a “witches eye” causing her to lose control and roll the ATV, with her going over the handle bars.  She was transported to Bay Area Hospital for treatment.

MIP Party
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 5/23/14 at 2111 hours a 911 call was placed to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office regarding a single vehicle, roll over, injury crash at mile post approximately 12 Fairview Route, Coquille, Oregon.  Deputies responded to the location to find the operator of the vehicle, a 1996 Plymouth Voyager, Lorraina J. Wilkerson 28 YOA of Coos Bay, Oregon. Ms. Wilkerson the operator and sole occupant was transported to the Coquille Valley Hospital and listed in stable condition. Evidence seized at the scene indicates that this was an alcohol related accident that occurred while leaving Laverne Park en-route to an undisclosed location. This was later confirmed at the hospital. Ms. Wilkerson will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney for DUII.  While at the vehicle accident scene Deputies received information from a citizen about a large group of under aged drinkers at Laverne Park. This report was unrelated to the vehicle accident investigation.  At 2256 hours Deputies responded to Laverne Park and a large group of intoxicated minors dispersed throughout the county park. Deputies learned while at the location 2 intoxicated females had walked away from a camp in the dark and fell down a 45 foot vertical embankment into the Coquille River.  Deputies and the Fairview Rural Fire Department extracted one female via ropes and litter and transported her to Coquille Valley hospital. It was determined she suffered a head injury and broken pelvis in the fall. She was identified as 19 year old Coos Bay resident Jobiona W. Rivas.  She was listed in stable condition.  A 17 year old female from Coos Bay that was with Ms. Rivas in the fall was finally able to get herself up the embankment and suffered bruises and scrapes.  She refused medical treatment at the scene.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Fairview Rural Fire Department in both incidents.  While at the scene Deputies cited and or referred 5 minors for Minor in Possession of alcohol (MIP).

Fatal ATV Accident
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 05/24/14 at 1217 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy, Hauser Fire/Rescue and Bay Cities Ambulance responded Boxcar Hill area of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA), just north of North Bend, Oregon to a report of an injury ATV accident.  Upon arriving, First Responders identified 22 year old Kristen Schroeder of Graham Washington and 20 year old Ryan A. Pauley of Longview Washington had been in the area, each riding ATV’s individually.  Mr. Pauley was jumping a razor face with a spotter when he collided with Ms. Schroeder, knocking her off her quad and into the sand.  CPR was started on Ms. Schroeder at the scene and she was transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance where she passed away.  Both Riders were wearing safety helmets.  Mr. Pauley did not require medical attention at the scene.

Injury ATV Accident
News release from the Coos Co. Sheirff’s Office.  On May 24 at approximately 1530 hrs, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Hauser Fire Dune Rescue and Bay Cities Ambulance responded to a single vehicle injury off-road motorcycle accident on Railroad Hill of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.  The operator was 24-year-old Daniel Anglin of Lafayette Oregon.  The accident occurred when Daniel was southbound jumping over a Dune called Railroad Hill.  Daniel apparently misjudged the jump and cart wheeled down the South side of the Dune.  Daniel was transported off the sand by Hauser Fire Dune Rescue and then transferred to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance for apparent head injuries.  Daniel was then life flighted to OHSU in Portland.

ATV Accident
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On May 24 at approximately 1759 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s office, Bay Cities Ambulance and Hauser Fire Department Dune Rescue responded to an injury ATV accident in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA).  The accident was a single vehicle (off-road motorcycle) accident that occurred on the Riley campground access road near the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks.  The operator, Steven D. Walker age 30 of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed approximately 150 yards from the bridge.  Steven was transported off the sand via Hauser Dune Rescue and then taken to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance with a suspected broken femur.

Criminal Trespass
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 05-25-14 at about 0725 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 66642 Oriole Road, Glasgow, North Bend, Oregon to a report of a suspicious male slumped over in the yard.  Deputies and First Responders form North Bay Fire responded and upon arrival found Kevin Alan Fitzgerald, age 22 of Coos Bay, intoxicated and passed out in a lawn chair in the yard at the residence on Oriole Road.  Upon investigation it was learned that Mr. Fitzgerald was currently on Probation and did not live at the property on Oriole Road.  As a result Mr. Fitzgerald was arrested for Criminal Trespass II and Probation Violation.  Kevin Fitzgerald was transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked and lodged on the above mentioned charges. Mr. Fitzgerald is being held on Probation Violation.

Bridge Jumper Joke
News release form the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 05/25/14 at approximately 13:40 hours members from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Coos County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, Millington Fire and Bay Cities Ambulance responded to the bridge located between Ross Inlet and Catching Slew on Coos River Hwy, Coos Bay to a report that a fully clothed man had jumped off the bridge.  Emergency responders searched the area extensively and did not locate anyone.  Officer following leads responded to 94937 Black Tail Lane, Coos Bay where they contacted Troy C. Larson 31 of Petersburg Alaska.  After an investigation it was learned he had jumped from the bridge as a joke with his friend.  During the investigation it was revealed Mr. Larson had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Lincoln County for Failure To Appear and was subsequently arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail.

DUII
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 5/25/14 at 2310 hours a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle at the intersection of Bay Park Lane and Hwy 101 in Coos Bay resulted in the arrest of Trevor S. Welch 38 YOA of North Bend, Oregon.  During the stop Mr. Welch, the operator of the vehicle, a Dodge compact 4 door sedan, provided false information to Officers.  Mr. Welch’s identity was determined and it was learned that he had Parole warrant issued for his arrest in Douglas County and a warrant out of Coos County for a previous incident of providing false information to law enforcement.  An investigation during the traffic stop revealed that Mr. Welch had no valid driving privileges and was under the influence of alcohol.  Mr. Welch had placed three small children that were in the car with him, ages 5, 11 & 12, at substantial risk in the vehicle.  Mr. Welch was arrested on the warrants.  Mr. Welch was additionally charged with DUII, False Information, DWS Misdemeanor and three counts of Reckless endangering.  Mr. Welch was lodged and held at the Coos County Jail. No breath test result was obtained.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police and Coos Bay Police Department.
