Coos Co. Sheriff’s Report, April 16

DUII

On April 12, 2014 at about 2:00 pm the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle blocking the forest road known as Ted Ellingson Road in the Coos County Forest off Hwy 101. The caller reported two males in a pickup truck seeming to be passed out and unresponsive. While Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies and a Bandon Police Officer were responding they were notified that the driver and passenger awoke and drove off. The vehicle was seen heading south on Highway 101, nearly causing a vehicle crash, and then turn onto side roads on the way to Whiskey Run Beach. A deputy observed the vehicle and was able to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle on Seven Devils Road. Deputies contacted the driver of the pickup, Kyle Thompson, 24 years of age of Bandon who appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant. After further investigation, Mr. Thompson was taken into custody for driving under the influence of an intoxicant, and for a probation violation. The violation came after the discovery of a possible controlled substance in the vehicle. After initial conflicting names given by the passenger he was identified as Anthony Ornelas, 25 years of age of Bandon and was found to have a valid warrant for his arrest. Both subjects were taken to the Coos County Jail where they were lodged. Mr. Ornelas was lodged on a warrant for Contempt of Court with a bail amount of $7,500. Mr. Thompson was charged with driving under the influence, probation violation and possession of a controlled substance schedule 1, heroin. His bail was set at no bail for the probation violation, $10,000.00 for the DUII and $50,000.00 for the controlled substance offence.
