Fatal near West Fork
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 06/17/2014 at about 2:23 pm, Coos County 911 received a call from a residence on the West Fork of the Millicoma River, east of Coos Bay, that a female had fallen off a trail near the falls on the Vaughn Ranch and was injured.  This was in the area near the old Fish Hatchery past the Girl Scout Cabin.  Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies, Millington Fire and Bay Cities Ambulance responded and upon arrival of the first responders they found the female deceased.  An investigation revealed that Brooke Alexander from Burbank California, and her significant other  were staying on some property in the area and had gone down to the river to do some fishing.  The two had separated near the old fish hatchery.  When the male came back up the trail from the river, he noticed Brooke had fallen down a steep embankment and was injured.  The male subject, age 67 also from Burbank California, had to drive about 3 miles back down the road to the nearest residence to call 911 for help.  By the time first responders arrived the female victim had passed.  She had severe head trauma.  The victim was removed with the help of Millington Fire, and Bay Cities Ambulance, and private citizens that lived in the area.  She was taken to the mortuary by Coos Bay Chapel.
