Theft/Burglary
News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On October 24, 2016, at about 0508 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a business alarm sounding at 93770 Newport Lane, Bunker Hill, Coos Bay, a family business, known as “The Gem Factory”, owned by John and Joni Kamfonik of Coos Bay.  While en route, Deputies learned the business had been forcefully entered. After the Deputies arrived and began their investigation it revealed that jewelry had been stolen from the business.  Additionally they observed a spray painted pickup that was parked in front of the business.  The deputies learned that it had been reported stolen from Mr. Rich Rayburn several days prior from their residence in Coos Bay. The investigation revealed that the suspect in the burglary at the Gem Factory had driven the stolen vehicle to that location.  Through the course of the investigation, 22 year old Leif Atkison was determined to be a suspect in the crime.  The investigation ultimately led to 209 Merchant Street in Eastside, Coos Bay, a residence leased by Leif Atkison.  Deputies applied for a search warrant of the property which they served at about 1430 hours on October 24, 2016. During the service of the search warrant at the property on Merchant Street Deputies located evidence of multiple recent burglaries and thefts from properties and vehicles in Coos Bay and within the County.  Twenty-two year old Leif Atkison of Coos Bay is the primary suspect and is still at large.  Mr. Atkison also currently has 2 outstanding warrants in Coos County for Assault.  The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information leading to the whereabouts of Leif Atkison.  Please contact 541-396-2106 (Coos County Dispatch) or 541-396-7801 (Coos County Sheriff’s Office) with information.

Assault
News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On October 25, 2016, at approximately 0214 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at 64748 Wygant Rd, Coos Bay.  At around 0220 hours, Deputies arrived on scene.  As a result of the investigation, Deputies arrested Leslie Bennett for Assault IV Domestic, Strangulation Domestic, Criminal Trespass I, and Criminal Mischief II.  Mr. Bennett was transported to the Coos County Jail and booked.  The victim, 45 year old June Tabernig of Coos Bay did not seek medical attention at the scene.
