Coos Co. Vaccine Update, March 29

CHW release – Coos County vaccine administration is moving quickly due to the partnership of many area agencies. Bay Area Hospital, Bay City Ambulance, Coast Community Health, Coos Bay Fire Department, Coos Health & Wellness, Coquille Valley Hospital, North Bend Medical Center, Southern Coos Hospital, Waterfall Health Clinic and many area pharmacies. In Coos County, approximately 55% of adults over 65 have received at least 1 dose of vaccine. There has been approximately 30% of the total adult population in Coos County have received at least one dose of vaccine as of today’s data. Coos County has opened the Phase 1a, Group 6, of Oregon Health Authorities vaccine timeline. Phase 1B group 6 includes: Adults 45-64 with one or more underlying health conditions with increased risk; Migrant and seasonal farmworkers; Seafood and agricultural workers; Food processing workers; People living in low-income senior housing, senior congregate and independent living; Individuals experiencing houselessness; People currently displaced by wildfires; Wildland firefighters; Pregnant people 16 and older. That means we will be moving away from maintaining the list for events and will move to a more open approach to taking appointments. If you are on the list and have not yet received a vaccine, you will still receive information to assist you in making an appointment for future events. While we are excited to get vaccines administered in Coos County, we will need to continue to take the precautions that we have been taking to prevent Covid-19 spread in our community. Continue to wear mask, stay physically distant from those outside your household and wash your hands frequently. We also need to continue to test and to work with contact tracers as these are some of the best tools we have for reducing the spread of Covid-19.
