The Coos County Chapter of Family and Community Educators (FCE), a grassroots volunteer organization working to better the community, will be making a donation to a community service project next week. FCE in Coos County is a group of dedicated women who work to better their community by meeting regularly to offer educational lessons and friendship. Their goal is to enrich their own lives and empower others to reach for their dreams. There are four active groups in the county: North Bend/Empire, Catching Inlet, Roadrunners in Coquille and North Fork in Myrtle Point. The group holds an annual gathering called Homemaker’s Holiday, set for April 25 this year. Money raised at that event is given back to the community in the form of donations to local organizations that serve others. On March 19, members of the FCE will present a check for $250 to The Green Spot in downtown Coos Bay. The Green Spot was chosen to be a recipient of their donation because of their service to the community through the free breakfast/lunch program they operate three times a week, and for the warming center they provide, for those in need, on nights when the temperature drops below freezing.
