Coos History Museum to Host: Race and Place: Racism and Resilience in Oregon’s Past and Present. SAT. NOV. 11TH 6:00-7:30PM, Oregonians envision a future that includes communities built on values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. At the same time, we live in a society that marginalizes and excludes people of color. Facilitators Anita Yap and Traci Price will lead participants in a conversation that looks at how Oregon’s history of racism influences our present and asks, How can understanding historic and current impacts of racism in Oregon contribute to our sense of place and vision of the future? How can diversity and inclusion create thriving communities? This is a free community conversation with Speakers; Anita Yap and Traci Price on Sat. Nov. 11th at 6:00-7:30pm at Coos History Museum. Anita Yap is the founding partner of the Multicultural Collaborative, a small business consulting group that provides strategies and services to nonprofits, local governments, and businesses to engage with diverse communities for equity, capacity building, community visioning, urban design, and public policy advocacy. Traci Price has worked in nonprofit sector for most of her career, with a focus on education and youth. She spearheaded the No Oregon Child Left Inside Act in 2008 and was appointed by Governor Kulongoski to lead development of the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan. The Coos History Museum creates a better understanding of life in Coos County and Oregon’s South Coast, past and present. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and receives no direct government support. The museum survives on donations, memberships, grants, museum store sales, special event rentals and legacy/bequest gifts. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free for CHM members, active duty military, and NARM members.
