Attempted Assault
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. “On December 8, 2013 at 1739 hours the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Myrtle Point Police Department responded to a residence on Mill Creek Lane near milepost 24 on Highway 42 regarding an assault. The victim, Richelle Ketchum, 42 YOA, of Myrtle Point reported her boyfriend of one year, Michael J. Armstrong, age 57, who resides with her in a motor home at the location, had struck her repeatedly with a baseball bat. The argument stemmed from the cold snap the local area has experienced and the fact that Mr. Armstrong was not sharing the propane heater. The verbal dispute became physical and Mr. Armstrong reportedly made threats to kill Ms. Ketchum while striking her with the wooden baseball bat. Sheriff’s Deputies and Myrtle Point Police Officers checked the area but Mr. Armstrong had fled on foot with the bat. Richelle Ketchum was transported by Myrtle Point Ambulance to Coquille Valley Hospital where she was treated and released. Local law enforcement officers are still looking for Michael Joe Armstrong for this crime and probable cause for his arrest has been issued by this office.
