The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is seeking volunteers to serve on a committee that reviews grant applications for county park projects. OPRD is accepting nominations and applications to fill three positions on the seven-member County Opportunity Grant Program Advisory Committee (also referred to as the County Parks Assistance Advisory Committee.) The volunteer positions to be filled are Citizen Representative, People with Disabilities / ADA Representative and Recreational Vehicle Owners Representative. The main function of the Advisory Committee is to read, assess and score grant applications submitted to the County Opportunity Grant Program, and attend a one-day grant application presentation meeting typically held in Salem each November. Applicants to the Committee should have some level of interest or involvement in county parks and recreational vehicle camping. Specific expectations and responsibilities include: 1) Access to a computer and the internet; 2) Ability to access and navigate an online grant applications system; 3) Commitment to read, evaluate and score six-12, 10-page grant applications during October and November; 4) Availability to attend a one-day grant application presentation meeting typically held in Salem each November. All travel, meals and lodging expenses associated with Advisory Committee meetings will be reimbursed by OPRD. The County Opportunity Grant Program is funded by a portion of Recreational Vehicle registration fees and is administered by OPRD. The program provides around $800,000 annually to Oregon county-sponsored projects that involve recreational vehicle camping and related amenities. Interested applicants should go to http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/GRANTS/Pages/County-Committee.aspx#County_Parks_Assistance_Advisory_Committee, complete a Committee Interest Form and submit it to Mark Cowan at mark.cowan@oregon.gov. New Committee members will be appointed by the OPRD Director.
