COVID-19 in North Bend
City of North Bend release – Since 2020, researchers at Oregon State University have tested sewage for trace amounts of COVID-19. The program continues statewide until summer 2023. Wastewater samples are collected at treatment facilities in about 40 locations across Oregon, then sent to Oregon State University to be tested a couple of times a week. Experts say it’s a low-cost and accurate read on how much COVID is in a community. Since May 11, 2022, North Bend’s variant detection has been increasing. North Bend Wastewater SARS-CoV-2 Data as of June 1, 2022: 5.581 log(virus RNA/L); 8.442 log(virus RNA/day/person). Very Strong: Values between 5.5 and 6.5 log(virus RNA/L) or 8.25 and 9.25 log(virus RNA/day/person) are considered “very strong”. This means that COVID-19 outbreak is severe. Extended periods in this range have previously been linked with increased hospitalizations and fatalities. Implementing additional preventative measures would be highly encouraged.
