The death count due to the COVID-19 virus now stands at 49 in Coos County. Officials at Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay are reporting that their COVID-19 Unit is at capacity and the Intensive Care Unit is becoming limited. According to Coos Health & Wellness officials, new cases of the virus have been surging locally. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and CDC (Nationally) report a similar trend as a new variant of the virus sweeps the World. A large percentage of the newly infected are the unvaccinated. State officials are stepping up their efforts to promote the need to be vaccinated.
