The Oregon Supreme Court moved Monday, May 18th, to reinstate Governor Kate Brown’s Stay at Home Order after a rural judge in Baker County ruled the Governor’s restriction exceeded a 28-day limit and that she erred by not seeking the Legislature’s approval to extend it. The Court ruled that Baker County Circuit Judge Matthew Shirtcliff’s decision is stayed pending a review by the Justices. The lower court issued an opinion in response to a lawsuit filed by ten churches that argued the state’s Social Distancing directive was unconstitutional.
