It’s been known as the “green building” at the Port of Brookings property on Lower Harbor Road, and it has sat vacant for several years. But now, it is coming down. Originally constructed in 2003 through the use of a State of Oregon Special Public Works Fund grant of $672,500, the 22,000 square foot, two-story structure, was intended to have commercial retail businesses on the bottom floor and offices, restaurant on the second floor. It never materialized and the Port is still stuck with repaying a $2,000 a month loan that will run through the year 2031. The Port is now accepting proposals to demolish the building and turn it into a storage yard for boats and trailers.
