Damage to Commercial Vehicles, Curry Co., March 5

On January 30, 2018, the Oregon State Police have initiated the investigation into commercial motor vehicles being randomly struck by unknown projectiles in the Gold Beach Area. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Oregon State Police Gold Beach worksite has fielded several calls from commercial truck drivers who have reported their vehicle’s being struck by unknown projectiles while driving in the early morning hours between Langlois and Port Orford. So far, the reports have only involved Commercial Motor Vehicles and no private passenger cars. The projectiles have not penetrated the metal of the vehicle but have caused moderate damage and no physical injuries. OSP has conducted a canvas of the area searching for information or evidence relevant to the case and spoken with several residents in an effort to locate those responsible. OSP continues to follow up on reports as they are received but is now requesting the public’s assistance in developing additional information in the case. If you are driving through this area and are the victim of a projectile striking your vehicle, you should continue to drive to a safe location and call 911 immediately relaying your location and any other pertinent information.
