DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – A newly certified Patrol K9 Team is on duty in Douglas County. In September 2019, the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous donation from a member of the community which allowed for the purchase of a third Patrol K9. After an extensive selction process, the Sheriff’s Office selected K9 Ozzy, a three-year-old German Shepherd to join the team. K9 Ozzy was paired with Deputy Daniel Barden and the two completed their certification and training program as prescribed by the Oregon Police Canine Association. The team began patrolling Douglas County on Sunday, June 7, 2020. “I am really excited about the opportunity to serve our communities with K9 Ozzy; he is already proving to be a great partner,” said Deputy Barden. “We look forward to meeting with community members and being a resource in Douglas County”. The Sheriff’s Office K9 Program is supported by private donations, Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs and various businesses in the community. “We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from our community, which allows us to have a successful K9 program,” Sheriff Hanlin said. K9 Ozzy joins K9 Grim and K9 Zoro in the patrol division.
