On June 22nd, 2017, the Josephine County Major Crime Response Team was activated per the request of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office due to a deceased male who was located near the Snail Back Beach Trail, which is near the Illinois River Selma, Oregon. The male’s identity was unknown at the time of the original report. The deceased male has subsequently been identified as John William Reitterer, 22 years of age, out of Crescent City, California. Next of kin has been notified. This is an ongoing and active investigation and no further details will be released at this time. The Oregon State Police is the lead investigative agency. Anyone with any information in regards to the death of Mr. Reitterer is asked to call the Oregon State Police Dispatch Center at 541-664-4600.
