December Delights at the South Slough Reserve!, Dec. 11

All programs begin at the South Slough Reserve Interpretive Center located four miles south of Charleston at 61907 Seven Devils Road unless otherwise noted. Explore the natural world with your wee ones, ages 1 to 5 at “Tide of the Toddlers~Whales” on Saturday, December 12th from 10-11 am. [Max-15 children] ($1/child) Please call (541)-888-5558 ext. 121 to register for this program. Join us for PBS Film “Christmas at Yellowstone” Saturday, December 12th from 1:00-2:00 pm. Breathtaking landscapes frame intimate scenes as Yellowstone’s diverse animal residents make their way through the most challenging season of the year. We’ll provide the big screen and the popcorn. (free) Call 541-888-5558 ext. 121 to sign up. Search the Reserve for winged wildlife at South Slough Birding on Saturday, December 19th from 8:00-10:00 am. An interpreter, binoculars and spotting scopes will be provided. [Max-15 participants] ($1/birder) Please call 541-888-5558 ext. 121 to sign up. Join us for the Estuary Explorers-Families in the Field Saturday, December 19th from 9:30am-12:30 pm. We encourage parents and children to participate together in this special Estuary Explorers event. Learn about amphibians and go on a hike to look for them. Designed for children 6 years of age and older. A snack will be provided. Dress to be outdoors. Bring a picnic lunch for after the program. The Interpretive Center will be closed December 25-28th and will re-open December 29th following the Christmas holiday weekend. Trails and waterways will remain open from dawn until dusk. On Tuesday, December 29th from 1:00-2:00 pm view the “Gray Whale Obstacle Course” nature film. Follow the journey of the gray whale from Baja to Alaska, including the Oregon Coast.
