DEQ Fines Seafood Processor, Jan. 24

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Pacific Coast Seafoods Company $2,150 for several wastewater violations at its Astoria fish processing facility. In December 2016 and January 2017, Pacific Coast Seafoods discharged wastewater that exceeded its allowed daily limits of oil and grease and other potentially harmful fish-processing waste. Wastewater from the Astoria facility discharges into the Columbia River near Tongue Point. If not properly managed, contaminants from industrial wastewater can threaten fish and other aquatic life. DEQ requires industrial facilities to limit the levels of contamination they release through wastewater to protect the health of Oregon’s people and environment.
