Disaster Relief Sought for Salmon Fisherman, Oct. 8

Urged on by the Coastal Coalition, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has submitted a formal request to the U.S. Dept. of Commerce seeking financial aid for the State’s commercial salmon industry. The request was submitted this week, but no timeline is attached as far as a response from the federal agency. The Governor, in her request, stated that the commercial salmon fishing industry along the Oregon Coast has been less than one-third of what it was in previous years. Diminished stream flows, ocean acidification and hypoxia have all contributed to the disaster according to State Representative David Gomber (D-Otis) Chair of the Oregon Legislature’s Coastal Caucus.
