A mid-day house fire on Lebanon’s east side was quickly extinguished by fire crews who also rescued and resuscitated a dog trapped inside the home. Lebanon firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from a building at 794 E. Oak Street at 11:59 am Tuesday. First arriving units reported heavy smoke pushing from the eaves of a single-story wood framed home and bystanders reported that an elderly female lived there but could not verify her whereabouts. Firefighters were on scene in just 3 minutes and quickly doused the fire while they searched for potential victims inside the home. During the search crews discovered a small dog which had been overcome by the smoke and heat of the blaze. Firefighters removed the dog to crews on the outside of the home who began resuscitative efforts using a special high flow oxygen mask designed specifically for pets. The masks were donated to the Lebanon Fire District in 2015 by Pamela Goyette and Mark and Tina Kroll. Mark Kroll is a firefighter with the Lebanon Fire District. The home’s occupant was not home at the time of the blaze but arrived shortly after as fire crews were attending to her dog. The dog regained consciousness and appeared to be recovering at which point the homeowner opted to transport the dog to a local veterinarian for evaluation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and members of the Lebanon Fire Investigation Team are working to determine a cause and origin of the fire. Eighteen firefighters and eight apparatus responded to the alarm and crews were on scene for just under two hours.
