Domestic Assault, June 21

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 06/19/16, at approximately 1853 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Myrtle Point area on a reported domestic assault. The actual assault had occurred within the city limits of Powers but the victim had fled to a safe home outside Myrtle Point. At the safe home deputies contacted Angela Armstrong. Ms. Armstrong told the deputies she had been at her home on Poplar Street in Powers at about noon when her live in boyfriend William Mellor began to accuse her of cheating on him. Ms. Armstrong said she was then assaulted by Mr. Mellor when he shoved her down and then began to hit her with a strap type whip. The victim said Mr. Mellor then took a fishing pole and whipped her across the back four or five times. Ms. Armstrong was then threatened with a pickaxe type of tool and Mr. Mellor tried to hit her with it. Ms. Armstrong said after the assault Mr. Mellor lay on the bed, telling Ms. Armstrong that he loved her until he began to snore. The victim was able to escape and make her way to a safe home. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office was in the midst of investigating this assault when the Powers Police was called to a reported assault on Mr. Mellor. Mr. Mellor was found badly beaten by another person, allegedly in retaliation for the assault on Ms. Armstrong. The Powers Police is the investigating agency on that assault. William Mellor was transported by ambulance to the Coquille Valley Hospital. Upon his release in the early morning hours of June 20, 2016 he was arrested by deputies and taken to the Coos County Jail. Mr. Mellor faces charges of Assault in the Second Degree (Domestic). He is being held on $250,000 bail.
